Any business in the UAE dealing with excise goods such as carbonated drinks, energy drinks, tobacco products, e-cigarettes, and sugar-sweetened products must be registered with the Federal Tax Authority (FTA). These businesses are required to maintain accurate records of all excise transactions in accordance with FTA regulations. Inventory records of excise goods should be kept up to date at all times to avoid penalties or fines.

Excise tax returns must be submitted to report excise goods and pay the corresponding tax. Eligible businesses are required to register for excise tax through the FTA website. The tax period for filing excise returns is one calendar month, and returns must be submitted via the FTA online portal within 15 days after the end of the relevant period. Payments for the tax due must also be made to the FTA by the 15th day following the end of the month.
